Chaplin Nature Center

Nestled along the Arkansas River just outside Arkansas City, the Chaplin Nature Center is a peaceful haven for nature lovers, bird watchers, hikers, and families seeking a quiet escape.


Managed by the Wichita Audubon Society, this 230-acre sanctuary offers miles of scenic trails, diverse wildlife, and educational opportunities year-round.

Things to See and Do


Wildlife Watching

Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles, deer, turkeys, and countless native birds. The varied habitats—woodlands, prairie, and riverside—make it a top destination for birding.

Hiking Trails
Explore more than 4 miles of trails that wind through shady woods and open prairie. Whether you're out for a quick stroll or a longer hike, the views are worth every step.


Nature Photography

Educational Programs

Visitor Tips


  • Bring water and sunscreen; shade is limited on some trails.


  • Trail maps are available at the kiosk near the parking lot.


  • To protect local wildlife, pets are not allowed.
