The City of Arkansas City will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with crews working in the southwest area of the city.
The Environmental Services Department will commence flushing operations in Section 1, which includes approximately 80 fire hydrants. This area is defined as south of Washington Avenue, extending to Lincoln Avenue, and west of First Street, encompassing the Veterans Memorial Lake area.
Flushing activities in Section 1 are scheduled to continue through at least June 13, 2025, and will be conducted Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents in this area may notice temporary discoloration or low water pressure during the flushing period. In most cases, running cold water through a faucet for a few minutes will clear the discoloration. However, if problems persist, customers are encouraged to contact the Environmental Services Department at (620) 441-4480 during business hours or (620) 660-1115 after hours.
Citizens are advised not to do laundry if water appears discolored, as it may result in permanent staining of fabrics. If laundry is accidentally stained, residents should leave the items wet and contact the department. A specialized detergent will be delivered to help remove the stains.
“Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this annual fire hydrant flushing program,” said Environmental Services Superintendent Kyle Blubaugh.
