Sanitation shifts to 4-day schedule Dec. 20-23 due to Christmas

City of Arkansas City offices closed Dec. 24 for Christmas; will reopen Dec. 27

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (Dec. 20, 2021) The City of Arkansas City will shift to a four-day sanitation schedule this week due to the closure of City offices Dec. 24 in observance of Christmas.

The Cowley County Landfill also will be closed Dec. 23-25 in observance of Christmas. The F Street Limb Disposal and Compost Site will be closed Dec. 24-26 and reopen for regular business Dec. 27.

The joint Recycling Operations Center in Strother Field will be closed Dec. 24-25 for Christmas and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2022, for New Year’s. Thus, no recycling services will be offered during the next two weeks. (The joint recycling center will reopen for drop-offs from 8 a.m. to noon on Jan. 7-8, 2022.)

Today’s and Tuesday’s entire routes will be unaffected by this holiday disruption. All of Wednesday’s route and part of Thursday’s route will be collected Dec. 22.

The part of Thursday’s route to be collected Dec. 22 is from Birch Avenue north to Kansas Avenue and from Sixth Street west to 15th Street.

The remainder of Thursday’s route and Friday’s entire route will be collected Dec. 23. (Please see accompanying map for full detail of holiday pickup areas.)

This same schedule pattern will repeat next week as the City is closed Dec. 31 for New Year’s Eve.

All refuse should be placed at normal pickup locations by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day of pickup. There will be no return pickups.
